What distinguishes SAP S/4HANA from previous SAP systems?
SAP S/4HANA is more than just an upgrade. Compared to previous SAP systems such as SAP R/3 or SAP ERP, it brings many innovations and simplifications and supports companies in their digital transformation. It uses the SAP HANA in-memory platform. Data is managed and provided in the server’s main memory, which enables significantly higher performance. With SAP Fiori, S/4HANA also relies on a user interface concept that enables simple and standardised operation along the processes and transactions. Cloud capability is also new, making the ERP system significantly more flexible and scalable.
What are the advantages of SAP S/4HANA?
S/4HANA is not module-based. Instead, business processes are increasingly merged. Integrations are easier to implement. Thanks to its modern architecture, the new ERP generation is also significantly faster and more powerful. What types of migration are there?
There are three main approaches to migrating to SAP S/4HANA:
- The greenfield approach involves building a system from scratch and migrating data from the old system. This approach offers the opportunity to optimize processes and to clear out data and modifications that are no longer required.
- With the brownfield approach current structures are migrated. The existing system is updated to SAP S/4HANA. Data and modifications are retained. This approach is less complex. However, in the worst-case scenario, old and inefficient processes and data are retained.
- The bluefield approach combines the two previous approaches. Some parts are rebuilt, while others are migrated.
